The temperature range for metal forging refers to the temperature range between the starting forging temperature and the ending forging temperature. The principle for determining the forging temperature range of aluminum alloy forgings in a forging plant is to have high plasticity and low deformation resistance within the forging temperature range, and to enable the shaft forgings to obtain the required microstructure and properties. Under this premise, the forging temperature range should be as wide as possible to reduce forging fires, minimize consumption, improve production efficiency, and facilitate operation.


Generally speaking, the forging temperature range of forgings is determined only based on the iron carbon phase diagram. Most alloy structures and tool steels, due to their low content of alloying elements, have no significant effect on the form of the iron carbon phase diagram, and the forging temperature range can be preliminarily determined based on the iron carbon phase diagram. For shaft forgings such as aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, copper alloys, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys, various methods are often needed to determine a reasonable forging temperature range.
